Diana's parents are the subject of a minor scandal when they separate after 14 years of marriage and are thrown into an acrimonious divorce and custody battle. Diana's mother Frances moves out of her marital home after her affair with wallpaper heir Peter Shand-Kydd is revealed. Her sisters Sarah, 12, and Jane, 10, are sent to boarding school, while Diana and her younger brother Charles split their time between their father's house and their mother's new place in London. Diana's father wins custody of her and Charles in December 1967, and she is enrolled into Silfield day school.
